  • Teaming Up With Google Cloud To Enable Agent-to-Agent Collaboration
Blog

At Automation Anywhere, we’re proud to support the Agent2Agent interoperability protocol—an open standard designed by Google Cloud and recently donated to the Linux Foundation to unlock seamless communication and coordination between AI agents across technologies and organizations.

Here’s why it matters and how it’ll help our customers use digital agents to communicate and collaborate with other A2A-compliant agents across organizations and ecosystems.

Enterprise IT complexity creates gaps between AI agents

As enterprises automate more complex processes across multiple domains, they’re adopting specialized AI agents to automate specific tasks. But in doing so, a critical challenge has emerged: most AI agents operate in isolation.

Built on different platforms, with distinct capabilities, and potentially segregated from other crucial systems and data, AI agents often can't share context, delegate responsibilities, or collaborate—especially across security or organizational boundaries. Those disconnects can block automations or dilute impact because AI agents may not have access to all the data required to complete a task, as relevant information is often spread across multiple systems.

Adding to the challenge is the growing presence of opaque agents—AI systems that deliberately conceal their internal workings, such as memory, tools, and decision logic, to protect security, privacy, or competitive advantage. Because these agents don’t reveal their internal resources, they struggle to share information or coordinate with other agents. This gap creates barriers to seamless collaboration, resulting in disjointed workflows and lost opportunities for automation to reach its full potential.

Ultimately, this lack of interoperability leaves enterprises with fragmented solutions rather than the connected, intelligent systems they need to drive innovation at scale.

How the new A2A protocol eases AI agent interoperability

The A2A protocol provides a standardized way for AI agents to work together without accessing each other’s internal logic or tools. It defines a common framework for discovery, task requests, negotiation, and coordination between agents, enabling dynamic and secure collaboration. You can read Google Cloud’s A2A announcement for more information.

The great thing is that, with A2A, agents can interact as a team: discovering each other, aligning on tasks, and executing multi-step workflows across systems, clouds, and business units. It’s a significant step toward making AI agents more interoperable, adaptive, and effective in real-world enterprise environments.

A2A complements Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP), which focuses on how an agent accesses external tools, data, and resources needed to perform its tasks. While MCP equips individual agents with the necessary context and capabilities, A2A enables these agents to communicate and collaborate securely with one another, even when they operate across organizational or technical boundaries.

At A2A’s core are four foundational capabilities:

  • Capability Discovery: Agents advertise their abilities so others can find and utilize the right agent for a given task.
  • Task Management: Agents share and track the status of tasks, coordinating complex, multi-step workflows over time.
  • Collaboration: Agents exchange messages, context, and artifacts to work together effectively and adaptively.
  • User Experience Negotiation: Agents agree on how to present information and interact with users to support rich, context-aware communication across diverse platforms.

Together, these capabilities provide a robust foundation for scalable, secure, and dynamic agentic AI collaboration, moving enterprises closer to intelligent, interconnected automation that enables the autonomous enterprise.

A2A and Automation Anywhere can help accelerate your journey to becoming an autonomous enterprise

Our vision centers on the autonomous enterprise, where agentic automation seamlessly powers every part of the business. Through our Agentic Process Automation System, we equip enterprises with AI-powered agents that can make decisions, adapt to context, and execute high-value tasks with minimal intervention.

Integrating the A2A protocol into our platform is a natural evolution of this vision. It enables our AI agents to communicate and collaborate beyond internal systems, connecting with other A2A-compliant agents across organizations and ecosystems. This interoperability is critical for unlocking the full potential of AI-driven automation in today’s diverse and distributed enterprise environments.

Building on this foundation, Automation Anywhere recently introduced the industry’s first Process Reasoning Engine (PRE). This breakthrough innovation will “fundamentally change how entire departments and companies work, enabling them to go from idea-to-action with speed, and efficiency, further laying the foundation for the autonomous enterprise,” stated Mihir Shukla, CEO and Co-founder of Automation Anywhere.

This engine empowers agents to reason through complex business processes continuously, dynamically plan multi-step workflows, and adapt in real-time to changing circumstances. Unlike traditional automation, which follows rigid rules, our reasoning engine allows agents to think more like humans, assessing context, making decisions, and evolving their actions as situations unfold.

Nearly every enterprise platform is being infused with agentic AI. Those that use the open A2A protocol free their agents, whether built on our platform or another, to work together seamlessly. Managing how they work together should be just as easy, and our engine orchestrates agents built on any platform to execute complex workflows efficiently and intelligently.

We’re excited to unleash the possibilities of the A2A protocol as we lay the foundation for scalable, flexible, and secure AI collaboration, helping enterprises orchestrate high-value processes across their entire ecosystem. Our support for A2A and investment in process reasoning reflect Automation Anywhere’s commitment to driving innovation, efficiency, and resilience in an increasingly connected and agentic AI world.
