AI agents now autonomously resolve most IT tickets, eliminating the need for traditional service desks altogether. Discover why Autonomous IT beats the legacy ticket-based model, cutting ITSM spend up to 65% and service desk labor costs up to 61%. Learn how outcome-driven pricing aligns vendor economics with customer value realization.
For decades, enterprise IT has run on a premise that made sense at the time: problems are inevitable, tickets are how you manage them, and headcount is how you scale to meet demand.
That model fit the tools IT had. AI changes the math: every ticket still carries a cost, every escalation still adds friction, and the scoreboard we built around ticket volume and resolution time no longer reflects what's actually possible. Organizations that don't adapt will simply spend more running IT than the competitors who do, locking up budget that could otherwise go toward driving growth for the business.
The opportunity is to rewrite the IT operating model now that AI makes a genuinely better one possible.
The question isn't how to make your service desk faster but whether you'll need one in its current form at all. When AI agents can autonomously resolve the majority of L1 and L2/L3 tickets, the architecture of IT operations changes permanently. Capacity is no longer a function of headcount. AI agents have removed the software-as-a-service (SaaS) tax and sprawl that made IT headcount increases feel inevitable.
At Automation Anywhere, this is what we mean by the Autonomous Enterprise. IT stops being a cost center that reacts to the business and becomes the operating layer that accelerates it, running on a unified agentic platform instead of dozens of disconnected tools managed by an army of specialists.
Look at what's happening across the IT service management (ITSM) market right now. As one example, ServiceNow has retired its legacy licensing tiers in favor of three new AI-native tiers, bundled its AI assistant into the base package, and acquired an AI-native competitor to backfill capability it didn't have organically. Those are the moves of a traditional SaaS company that finally sees where the industry is headed.
But the model underneath hasn't changed as much as the packaging has: the ticket is still the unit of work, and AI is metered on top of it as a consumption pool layered onto seat licenses, not a replacement for them. That's a reasonable step for a company like ServiceNow protecting a large existing business while it evolves. For enterprises, it means the ticketing system stays the system of record. The real question is how much of the work around it still requires a person.
Our customers see a 65% reduction in ServiceNow ITSM spend after deploying agentic IT, and a 61% reduction in service desk labor cost. Not because they replaced ServiceNow, but because far fewer tickets ever need a human to touch them in the first place.
Using our autonomous service desk solution, Cisco's IT support team saw a 20% reduction in ticket volumes and an 81% autonomous resolution rate in less than 100 days of going live. Similarly, BDO Canada, one of Canada's largest professional services networks, struggled with overwhelming IT ticket volumes that created productivity bottlenecks, with technical staff bogged down by routine queries instead of focusing on strategic work. After deploying our solution, BDO Canada achieved an 84% auto-resolution rate and a 72% improvement in productivity.
These aren't outliers, and realizing results like these requires a fundamentally different economic foundation than most traditional platforms are offering.
Give the software industry credit: the conversation has begun to shift. Pay-per-resolution pricing is no longer a fringe idea. But read the fine print, and the pattern across most legacy SaaS platforms is consistent: outcome layers bolted onto pricing that is still, structurally, seat- and ecosystem-anchored. The AI meter runs alongside fulfiller seats, not instead of them, and the usage pool comes with overage charges once you exceed it. Enterprises are already reporting renewal quotes rising sharply as AI features get bundled in with no opt-out. It's the same economic model, with a meter attached.
On the opposite end, AI-native startups have built outcome-driven pricing from the ground up. But what they typically lack is the enterprise foundation to back it: process depth built over decades, and the security, compliance, and governance infrastructure regulated industries require. Outcomes without enterprise-grade guardrails introduce risk large organizations can't absorb.
Automation Anywhere occupies a distinct position: the economic alignment of outcome-based pricing, backed by the platform depth, partner ecosystem, and enterprise readiness neither category can match on its own. Our agentic ITSM offerings are purpose-built for the AI era, where we price directly against outcomes like tickets resolved, so our economics align with the value customers actually realize. Enterprises should start with value-driven commitments and scale spend as AI agents prove themselves in production, rather than pre-buying capacity against theoretical promise.
We've made the future IT architecture concrete: Autonomous IT and a rebuilt autonomous service desk, orchestrating AI agents to resolve requests end to end rather than deflect them. We've now surpassed 1 billion IT service requests fulfilled autonomously, with AI agents resolving two-thirds of employee requests on average across our deployed base.
The future path for IT isn't a big re-platforming initiative. It's three shifts, in order:
We did the third one first, which is why the other two are credible.
Building an Autonomous IT function isn't a roadmap item for us. It's how we run. Over the last two years, we've seen:
This is how the best IT organizations will compete over the next decade. When IT stops managing tickets, it starts building leverage: resolving issues before employees notice them, predicting demand before it bottlenecks, continuously optimizing the estate instead of firefighting it. IT leaders stop reporting on uptime and start influencing revenue. That's when IT becomes a growth engine, not just a support function.
This is the ITSM disruption we've all been waiting for. The ticket was never the job. The outcome is what matters.
Use our Agentic Advantage playbook to find out whether your organization is ready for an ITSM transformation.
