Test Creation
There are 5 easy ways to create tests using Testing Anywhere. No programming knowledge is needed.

1. Windows Object Recorder
Easily create a test by capturing Windows object actions like drop down menus, list boxes, buttons, radio buttons, check boxes, click actions and much more.

2. Advanced Web Recorder
The Advanced Web Recorder understands all web objects so you can easily create a test by performing any action in a browser like clicking a link, a button or a check box on multiple web pages.

Testing Anywhere recognizes each web object. If websites change, for example if links or buttons move, Testing Anywhere will still accurately replay the test. The Advanced Web Recorder with pattern-based data extraction allows you to easily extract Web data with matching patterns even if the data spans multiple pages.

3. Standard Test Recorder
Testing Anywhere’s superior SMART Automation Technology^® eliminates the need to write infrastructure code to: wait for applications to load, check for window size and position, determine if desktop icons have moved, etc. Focus on the logic and create tests ten times faster than the competition at one-tenth the cost.

4. Image Recognition
Image recognition uses visual elements to record tests. You can use Testing Anywhere’s image recognition function to validate you user interface by comparing your current application screen to the expected application screen to verify that all of the user interface elements are still there.

5. Editor with 585 commands and Object Avatar
Easily create tests visually without programming, or use Testing Anywhere’s 585 edit commands to enhance your tests. You can edit your tests using Normal View (for simple drag-and-drop editing), or you can edit your tests using Expert View (for code-based editing by programmers).

Avatars – Recording and Repository
Visually capture live representations of one or more objects in a window. These working object representations are called Avatars. Avatars retain their live object properties like Name, Type, Value, Parent, Class, Path, PosX, PosY, Width and Height.

You can then create tests using only Avatars. This means that any of your authorized Testing Anywhere users can create and edit tests with Avatars even though those users do not have access to the applications that you are testing. Learn more...

Edit recorded tests or create new tests with point and click action wizards. No programming required. There are more than 585 powerful actions to choose from including:

• Keyboard & Mouse actions
• Files/Folder actions
• Windows actions

2. Visualize

• You can view images in the Test Editor View when you record tests.
• Visualize (Image View) allows you to see all of the test’s images in a storyboard layout so you can easily understand the scripts/tests.
• SnapPoint provides on-demand screen capture (with mouse cursor position) while creating tests.
• Visualize Technology Image Recognition gives Testing Anywhere the ability to “see” application screens. This allows Testing Anywhere to compare static or dynamic images as each test runs and perform actions based on the images it sees, just as a human being would do.

3. Checkpoints
You can insert Checkpoints for conditional checks at any point of the testing process. The object properties checkpoint feature allows conditional checks for various properties of an associated object.

• Select from 24 types of checkpoints.
• Stop or Continue at any point of the test using checkpoints.

4. Debug Tests
Troubleshoot and correct any errors that occur during testing. A Variable watch window provides an instant view of the variable changes as they occur while tests are running.

5. Run Suites
Run multiple tests together by adding them to Run Suites. You can also enable or disable one or more of the tests loaded in the Run Suites. Schedule Run Suites to execute the tests in normal or stealth mode, and view status reports in the form of attractive pie charts. You can also integrate run suites into HP Quality Center.

6. Error Handlers
Handle errors when a test runs by creating error blocks. You can opt to continue the test despite the error, or stop the test if a certain error occurs. Error handling notifies you of the error by taking a screenshot of the error and/or by sending a notification via email.

7. Variable Support
Variable support lets you run the same test repeatedly while automatically substituting different values for the selected variables without having to make any changes to the test. Two different types of variables are supported:

1. System variables: These are pre-defined variables like date, clipboard, etc.
2. User variables: These are variables that you can define as needed.

There are three different types of user variables:

• Value (Single Value)
• List (Multiple Values)
• Random (Random Value)

You can specify the value(s) for a variable, or you can have the test automatically read the value(s) from a text file.

1. Test to EXE

• You can convert tests into executable (EXE) files so you can quickly and conveniently deploy them on remote machines.
• EXEs contain an intelligent Testing Anywhere agent so they can run on remote computers even if the remote computers don’t have access to Testing Anywhere. The agent makes automatic adjustments when replaying the EXE so tests can run seamlessly across computers.
• EXEs provide unprecedented security in automation. All EXEs are encrypted with strong encryption to protect your test content. You can also password protect each test with its own password.

2. Workflow Designer
Workflow Designer is a Testing Anywhere application that lets you create high level business and IT processes and manage them. Each Workflow displays an intuitive graphical representation of the test’s conditional logic, the test’s initiation, and so on.

3. Schedule tests
Scheduling allows you to run tests at pre-defined times. Testing Anywhere offers many scheduling options. You can schedule one or more tests to run:

• Daily (every day, only on weekdays, every two days, etc.)
• Weekly (on certain day(s) of the week, for example every Monday, or every Monday and every Wednesday)
• Monthly (on a certain day of a month, for example January 1st, or January 1st and October 5th)
• One time only, or schedule a test to run multiple times.
• When the computer starts, when it’s idle, or when you log in.

Schedule Manager:
View, add, edit or delete test schedules in the graphical Schedule Manager. Switch between daily, weekly or monthly views and System related schedules.

1. Visualize Technology

• You can view images when you record the test in the Test Editor View.
• Visualize (Image View) allows you to see all the images of the tests in a storyboard layout. This helps you to easily visually understand what is going on in the scripts or tests.
• SnapPoint allows you to capture and display a screenshot image of the current window as you record a test. The mouse cursor’s position is displayed in each shot.
• Visualize Technology Image Recognition gives Testing Anywhere the power to "see the screen." It can compare static or dynamic images when tests run, and it can perform actions based on screen content just as a human being would do.
  

1. Reports
Testing Anywhere provides several graphical reports that display the status information of tests, run suites and workflows. Reports designed in the Report Designer can be triggered to run when specific conditions occur, or they can be scheduled to run at pre-defined times, and much more.

1. Visual log reports: Testing Anywhere’s powerful Visualize option takes screenshots to create visual logs during runtime. These screenshots can be viewed using the Report Designer’s Visual Logs option which displays the visual history of test runs.

2. Visual logs
Get an at-a-glance graphical and informative view of individual tests or run suites from the main Testing Anywhere Client window. See the Pass/Fail statuses for tests/run suites (and any applied checkpoints), plus pie charts for run suites.

1. Test Logs/Run Suite Logs: View detailed logs of tests or run suites. Test logs can be filtered for viewing. You can also export test logs to CSV files. Depending upon the log you wish to see for a test or a run suite, the following criteria are displayed:


• Status – Pass/Fail
• Checkpoints Details – Total Checkpoints, Pass Checkpoints, Failed Checkpoints.
• Start/End Time - Of the whole test as well as each Line of Test.
• Created and Run Time Images

3. Audit trail capability using system logs
A new feature is the System Logs capability that provides you with a single database of all events that occur in your automated Testing Anywhere environment. Any changes made to the test, errors, deployment events, workflow creations, or any other actions can be viewed in the System Log. This can help you identify and diagnose the source of a problem, track changes to your testing system, and even help you predict potential problems. The System Log can be exported to a CSV file and can be filtered by Date and Type of the event.

4. Report dashboard
See a graphical view of regularly run tests from the main Testing Anywhere client window.

HP Quality Center users can perform seamless automated testing using Testing Anywhere’s test management system. Execute and update automated testing by uploading Testing Anywhere run suites, tests and results directly to HP Quality Center.

1. Knowledge capture: centralized repository
The Centralized Server maintains a repository of all tests and provides a platform from which tests can easily be shared and monitored. The server administrator can govern client attributes like creating tests, uploading tests, downloading tests, deleting tests and resetting passwords.

2. Centralized systems: backup, security and resources
This feature allows you to schedule automatic backups and recover lost files from the central repository. It also lets the administrator assign server permissions and individual user privileges and rights in order to maintain security. Use the Client Manager to grant certain users all rights, others only download rights, and so forth to match your organization’s management, security, and collaboration requirements.

1. XML
Process XML information generated from web services and/or through cloud computing using XML commands. Get data with XML formatting and save to the desired location using:

• XML sessions
• Node functionalities like Insert, Update and Get Nodes
• Validate XML files
• Perform XPath expressions

2. Web Service
The Web Service command implements SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) over the Internet so that multiple clients can use web services. This command establishes complete interpolarity between clients and applications on the Web and supports XML-based open standards such as WSDL (Web Services Description Language), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), and UDDI (Universal Description Discovery and Integration).

• Use an existing URI, or create a customized WSDL URI with secure authentication details if needed.
• Use reusable application components like currency conversion, weather reports, or even language translation as services.
• Connect and interact with various applications running on the same or different platforms irrespective of any underlying infrastructure requirements.

3. Terminal Emulator
The terminal emulator is a program that transmits keystrokes to the remote server, receives output from the server, and displays the output in a window that simulates the terminal screen. The terminal emulator supports standards like VT52, VT100, VT220, VT420, VT520, Wyse 50, Wyse 60, Wyse 370, TN3270, TN5250, ANSI, and more to allow users to access virtually any server, including mainframes, that require the use of a terminal.

4. ROI Calculator
The ROI calculator calculates the projected return on investment in U.S. dollars that accumulates over time from creating and automating your tests with Testing Anywhere.

5. System Resource
Get details of your computer usage during an automated testing process. Get system details like memory Usage and CPU usage and program details like GDI objects and threads.

6. Triggers
Auto response capability can trigger a test in response to many events. You can define which test(s) to trigger for each event. Testing Anywhere supports six types of triggers:

1. Window Trigger: Trigger a test when a window opens or closes.
2. File Trigger: Trigger a test when a file is created, deleted or renamed.
3. Folder Trigger: Trigger a test when a folder is created, deleted or renamed, or when a file is created, deleted or renamed in a particular folder.
4. Performance Trigger: Trigger a test based on CPU usage, the amount of free disk space, or the process count.
5. Process Trigger: You can have two types of triggers for each executable running on your computer—one when the process starts and one when the process stops.
6. Service Trigger: Trigger a test for any service installed on your computer. Auto-start a test when a service starts, stops, pauses or resumes.

7. Email Notification: Email notification allows you to send a status mail when a test finishes. The default email template contains the test name, description, repeat options, test status and last run time, but you can also customize the content of the status email.
